Press release:
Letchworth, Hertfordshire, UK - March 7th, 2023: Danmon Group UK announces the completion of a TV and radio system modernisation project for a London based university. The media studies campus delivers courses that include film, fine art and media, digital arts and communications, games design and animation, music, theatre and dance, creative writing, cultural and heritage studies, journalism, advertising and performing arts.
Danmon Group UK partnered with the university's management in selecting new elements of the system and advising on how best to integrate these into the creative workflow.
"A key challenge when working for university customers is the need to create systems which will prove effective in teaching and lecturing environments as well as matching the workflow students are likely to meet when they progress into media-related careers," says Danmon Group UK Managing Director Jonathan Hughes. "This project centred on the design and integration of an upgraded radio studio and radio hub based around AKA Design's ProCast R4 and ProVoice V6 respectively, plus communications infrastructure including latest-generation equipment. We held detailed discussions with the key lecture staff on the relative merits of currently available hardware, software and cloudware based solutions, and on the most effective way to coordinate these into a unified workflow. Once agreement was reached on the precise operational requirements, we developed a fully functioning system upgrade complete with supporting documentation and operational training."
Among new additions to the video infrastructure are a UHD video production switcher with NDI IP connectivity as well as 6G-SDI and HDMI interfaces. The system is capable of supporting up to 10 wired or wireless cameras plus three graphics tracks. It also incorporates storage for up to 20 hours of broadcast quality video and audio. Creative facilities include frame-accurate live switching, chroma key compositing and text management plus the ability to perform live streaming.
Also integrated are UHD monitors plus an IP-interfaced 40 input digital audio production console. This is augmented by intercoms between studio and production gallery plus wireless microphones and wireless in-ear monitors.
A core part of the installation, the radio hub is equipped with an HD-SDI production switcher including 4 SDI and 10 NDI inputs. This sources from 16 1080p NDI-interfaced remote pan/tilt/zoom cameras. Audio is handled through a 12-channel digital mixer with 16 audio-over-IP channels accessible via two Ethernet ports or 64 MADI inputs via fibre.
As with any project of this kind, Danmon Group UK endeavoured to complete the system upgrade with minimal disruption to the media-studies teaching routine. Finalisation and commissioning were performed between semesters, on time and within budget.
